Panorama Ball Vision, a spherical display
At the Industrial Virtual Reality Expo, NAC Image Technology exhibited for reference the Panorama Ball Vision, a spherical display. With a square display, only part of the “cut-out” space can be used for the display, but with the Panorama Ball Vision, the center of the sphere is the focal point of a lens, so all directions can be displayed on the outer surface of the sphere. The display rotates at 500 rpm, making eight revolutions per second. That’s just fast enough to appear to the human eye without flickering. The resolution is 640 dots from pole to pole and along the equator, and the color range is 12 bits for each of red, green, and blue.
